About the Project
Join our effort to create a U.S. Postage Stamp honoring U.S. Senator Blanche K. Bruce.
Few people realize this, but during its 159 years of issuing postage stamps, the U.S. Postal Service has never place a black elected official on a stamp. While there are stamps honoring civil rights leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King, most stamps featuring blacks are ones featuring black athletes and entertainers. The nation has created stamps to honor numerous white Senators, Governors, Congressmen, and rightfully issued stamps that honored the first woman Senator (Hattie Caraway), and Hispanic American Senator Dennis Chavez. The Postal Service has even created stamps to honor Confederates. It is time to place a black elected official on a stamp, and the logical choice to receive that honor is Senator Blanche Bruce. Please help Lawrence Otis Graham in his efforts with the Senator Bruce Stamp Project.
